The historic town centre of
St. Pauls and especially its parish church known as the “cathedral in the country” is an impressively majestic sight. Surrounded by vineyards and orchards, St. Pauls is a small island of calm with its own particular flair. Cultural and social events take place regularly in St. Pauls: in summer there are the
Wine Culture Weeks, shortly followed by a traditional
village fête every second September, and at Christmas there is a
crib scene display in the streets of St. Pauls!
St. Pauls is part of the municipality of Eppan. St Michael is its principal town and seat of local government. Other towns and villages in the municipality include Girlan, Frangart, Missian, Unterrain, Perdonig, Gaid and Montiggl with its swimming lakes.
Eppan an der Weinstraße is a real experience: southern flair, lush Mediterranean vegetation, vineyards and orchards, around 180 castles and chateaux, numerous cultural treasures and world-renowned wines.
The Eppan area lies between 240 and 1800 m above sea level. The lower lying areas have a sunny, sub-Mediterranean climate, and then there are the pine forests and meadows with a southern alpine climate extending right up into alpine meadows and the Mendel mountain range. Sun seekers are always rewarded. In Eppan the sun shines on average for around 2,000 hours a year.
